Improperly formatted record line

All,

My rwhois server is able to establish connection.  However, after telnetting to the local box, connection terminates after inputting a command such as -xfer and -soa.  Using the rwhois client, I would type in rwhois -s localhost -v 192.168.1.0/24.  The response shows as:

Connecting to localhost:4321
error querying rwhois server: Improperly formatted record line

I assume that this refers to my network data?
