Hi,
Please find the Evaluation Matrix filled out for FIRS. I hope to have
gotten everything right, although it was not easy to differentiate
between the possibilities of LDAP and the specifications of the firs
documents. May be in some cases, e.g., in the use of the LDAP error
codes, the firs documents should more precicely specify these errors to
even better match the requirements.
Another problem was to differentiate between LDAPv3 standard and LDAPv3
implementations, since some vital parts like access control and
replication are still not standardized, but provided by the
implementations (where my main focus is on OpenLDAP).
Just to make sure that I didn't include own misconceptions I am Ccing
this to Kurt, who may want to comment. Since the time untill Vienna is
so short I didn't first communicate with him (sorry Kurt).
I found a few bugs in the matrix in relation to the -05 requirements
draft, which I corrected. These amendmends, that occure in sections
3.1.6. and in 4.1-4.4 are marked by underlined text.
As you can see, I see FIRS as complying to the requirements with one
exception:
- Section 3.1.13.1
Relay bags are not directly supported in the current FIRS documents,
which only hint to the possibility of specifying an LDAP extension for
this feature. I agree that such is possible via defining an LDAP control
that defines additional data to be sent. Such could be specified in a
way to fulfill all respective requirements. I for one am voluntering to
co-author a document that specifies such a controll, if Eric needs help
in this.
I don't want to miss the situtaion to congratulate Eric for his very
thoughtfull and comprehensive suite of documents.
I only found some minor typos etc. which I will communicate to Eric
directly.
If wanted, I could prepare a short presentation about this evaluation at
thee meeting in Vienna.
Cheers,
Peter
